And We Are Live!

I am happy to announce that I’ve been able to bring the Morrill Online web site back on line after a long hiatus. Thanks to all those who encouraged me to bring it back. I would not have done so without you.

My hope here is to publish around a decade of research I have done into the Morrill and Morrell surnames and related families. If only I had published a traditional book way back in 2000, there would have been a perpetual record and no down time. But since this web site started, the number of documented families quadrupled to almost five thousand, so I suppose it is a good thing that there was never a book. Publishing the data for that many families has always been a difficult technological challenge, and it is one reason the information went off line for so many years. Even so, there are still numerous problems with fonts and images. I will try to fix those up as time permits.

Since I may be deleting and recreating many of the pages, I have turned off comments for now. Deleting a page deletes the comments. When things stabilize, I hope to enable comments so that we can pool our knowledge about these families. In the mean time, please visit the Facebook page and post your questions or suggestions over there.

I am still fixing up some pretty basic stuff, so for now please do not submit new genealogical information for inclusion. Web technology has changed quite a bit in recent years, and the old tools I used for publishing are no longer helpful. I have recently tried many of the genealogical software tools that are currently popular, hoping to save myself countless hours. But most or all of them create strange and bizarre web pages above a couple dozen families. I am a programmer for my day job, so I may have to write my own publishing tools. In fact I already have created a one new tool just to get this far.

Check it out and let me know what you think!
