Water Morrill of Williamsburg enlisted as a Sergeant on 15 July 1861 at the age of 20 in Company A, 6th Infantry Regiment Maine. He was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant, then Captain, then Lieutenant Colonel, all in Company B, 20th Infantry Regiment Maine. He mustered out on 4 June 1865.
