Children
Moses was twin to a daughter, Miriam Osgood, also recorded as born and died 18 Sept. 1727. Miriam’s own birth entry describes her as “d. twin, Dan[ie]ll and Hannah, Sept. 18, 1727” (Salisbury Births, p. 187), and Moses’s own birth entry on the same page (‘Moses, s. twin, Dan[ie]ll and Hannah, Sept. 18, 1727’) and death entry (Salisbury Deaths, p. 602) carry the identical date, indicating the twins were born and died the same day — consistent with a difficult or premature twin delivery.[8]
NOTE: Miriam was twin to a son, Moses Osgood, also born and died 18 Sept. 1727. A second daughter was named Miriam in 1731, the common New England practice of reusing a deceased child’s name.
NOTE: This is the second son named Moses; an elder brother of the same name was born and died 18 Sept. 1727. Register date double-dated “1734-5” under the Old Style/New Style year-start convention, resolved here to 10 Mar 1735 New Style. A third son was later named Moses in 1744, continuing the period practice of reusing a deceased child’s name.
- Born
- ABT 30 OCT 1732[13] · Salisbury, Mass.
NOTE: The birth entry’s year digit is damaged in the source scan/OCR; the compiler’s own printed marginal query “[1732?]” is followed here, and the year is treated as approximate (ABT 1732). Birth order places this entry between the 1731 and 1734/5 siblings, consistent with that reading.
- Born
- 06 JUN 1742[14] · Salisbury, Mass.
NOTE: Named for her mother, Hannah (Morrill) Osgood — a common period naming pattern.
- Born
- 01 JUL 1731[15] · Salisbury, Mass.
NOTE: A first daughter also named Miriam, twin of a son Moses, was born and died the same day (18 Sept. 1727); this Miriam, born 1 July 1731, is a distinct, second daughter of the same name — the common New England practice of reusing a deceased child’s name.
- Born
- 21 OCT 1728[16] · Salisbury, Mass.
NOTE: Distinguished from a later, unrelated Benjamin Osgood in this database (b. 1808, d. 1848 Amesbury, m. Sarah Morrill 1842): that man was born eight decades after this 1728 register entry and married a different Morrill wife than this family’s mother — a same-name, different-era, different-family match, not this record’s subject.
- Born
- 13 OCT 1744[17] · Salisbury, Mass.
NOTE: Third son named Moses; the first two (b. 18 Sept. 1727 and 10 Mar 1734/5) both died in infancy. Hannah (Morrill) Osgood would have been about 39 years old at this birth.
- Born
- 18 NOV 1739[18] · Salisbury, Mass.
NOTE: Distinguished from two other Osgood-surnamed women already in this database who are not children of Daniel and Hannah (Morrill) Osgood and do not match this 1739 register entry: Sarah Osgood (d. 22 Jun 1774, m. Elijah Morrill 1761, no recorded parents or birth), whose own record names her Sarah, not Martha; and Mary Osgood (b. ABT 1763, m. David Morrill 1824), born 24 years after this entry’s date and so chronologically excluded.
