Richard Morrill was an early settler of Dakota County, Minnesota, establishing a claim as early as 1854 in an area that would become the town of Randolph. He came to the area from Shullsburg, Wisconsin. He is said to have entertained twelve Sioux Indians for a night. They had two Chippewa scals, “over which they were rejoicing greatly.” But they left peacefully in the morning. The first religious services in the town of Randolph were held at the house of Richard Morrill, in the years 1856-57. Edward D.
