Two independent primary/derivative-primary records (Henry’s 1880 birth record @S00600@ and his 1900 marriage record @S00574@) both directly name the mother as Mary Ann/Mary A. Thomas, superseding the Case guess. Columbia Case’s exact relationship to the household is not otherwise explained; the household’s own listed relationship label (‘mother’) may be inexact (boarder, in-law, or a different relation) rather than evidence of a Case maiden name.
Mary’s maiden name was probably Case, as she was living with a Columbia Case, age 77, “mother”, in New York 1910.
