NOTE: Superseded maiden-name guess: an earlier personal research note speculated ‘Case’ from a Columbia Case (age 77, listed as ‘mother’) in the 1910 census household. Two independent primary/derivative-primary records (Henry’s 1880 birth record and his 1900 marriage record) both directly name the mother as Mary Ann/Mary A. Thomas, superseding the Case guess. Columbia Case’s exact relationship to the household is not otherwise explained; the household’s own listed relationship label (‘mother’) may be inexact (boarder, in-law, or a different relation) rather than evidence of a Case maiden name.
NOTE: Death place: the New York State Death Index entry is geocoded to ‘New Hempstead, Orange, New York’, but its original place reads ‘Hempstead, New York’ and the Brooklyn Daily Eagle obituary places the death at Garden City, L.I. (Hempstead town, Nassau County); the Orange County reading is an indexing error. Birth conflict, not resolved: the Find a Grave memorial and index give Oct 1854 and (memorial) Staten Island Junction, New Jersey, against the tree’s OCT 1856, New York, derived from the 1910 census; the memorial’s birth, parents (Charles A. Thomas and Columbia Young Case) and children rest on user-entered family data and are leads only. Her maiden surname Thomas is already documented in the tree by the 1880 birth record (Mary Ann Thomas, mother of Henry Heywood Morrill) and the memorial is consistent with it.
