. - Rev. David T. Morrill was a Baptist clergyman. He was a Chaplain in the Civil War, enlisting Oct 1862. He was a pastor for sixteen years in Newark, New Jersey before moving to La Grange, Illinois.

A notation in the margins of the application reads, “Miss Phillips: Morrill’s ‘Devil in Mexico’, ‘On the War Path’ and numerous other of his publications have given him a pretty shady record.
