Administration of the estate was granted to Arnold Whittemore of Jay on 14 Dec 1824, and the widow Jane was allowed $100 out of the personal estate on 14 Jun 1825.[5]
The tree’s death date of 17 Nov 1824 is consistent with the estate papers: the widow Jane renounced the trust on 22 Nov 1824 and the warrant to appraise is dated 24 Nov 1824, so he was dead by then. No probate record found states the day of death.[6]
Identity distinguished from Joseph Morrill (also written Morrell, Joseph F.) of Mount Vernon, Kennebec County, yeoman, against whom Betsey Philbrick, widow, of Mount Vernon took an execution at Augusta on 20 Oct 1828: he was alive and in court in Oct 1828, after this Joseph’s estate opened in Dec 1824, and he is a yeoman of Mount Vernon, whereas the estate papers call this man a blacksmith of Livermore, Oxford County. Kennebec court papers of 1826-1828 in the name of Joseph Morrell are his, not this man’s.[7]
needs independent verification: the images of the estate papers (Oxford County probate register, DGS 007600045, pp. 264-269) read at the decedent’s name, the administrator’s appointment of 14 Dec 1824 and the widow’s renunciation of 22 Nov 1824. The administration is known from machine transcripts of the register pages only.[8]
Jane Mace
needs independent verification: the image of the 1830 census page (Livermore, Oxford County, Maine, page 137, image 3:1:33SQ-GYYY-9TJB) to read the household’s age and sex counts. The index row carries the head’s name only; it is matched to Jane by name, place and year, since she was a widow of Livermore in June 1830 (her petition of 19 Jun 1830 is dated there).[11]
