The FamilySearch “Maine, Births and Christenings, 1739-1900” index records sex as Female for this birth entry, an ordinary indexing slip on a name that reads ambiguously — this study’s own record of Carrol C. Morrill’s Civil War enlistment (Private, Co. C, 20th Maine Infantry) confirms male; the erroneous sex is not carried into the BIRT citation’s assertion.^[9]

Carrol Morrill enlisted as a Private on 29 August 1862 at the age of 24 in Company C, 20th Infantry Regiment Maine, and fought with them until his death. ^[10]
