Death date reconciled. The tree gave 26 January 1764, taken from Lyford’s History of Canterbury (vol. 2, p. 255), a genealogy printed in 1912 that cites no source for the date. The diary of Rev. Timothy Walker of Concord, written at the time, records that on Saturday 21 January 1764, at Canterbury, “News came of Reuben Morrill’s being killed by the fall of a tree.” A death reported on the 21st cannot have happened on the 26th, so the date is entered as before 22 January 1764. Neither source names the place of death; Canterbury is where the news was received and where Reuben’s father’s family had settled. The 26 January date is retained here as the printed genealogy’s reading. Reuben is the only man of the name known at Canterbury in 1764. Needs independent verification: the manuscript diary page or a Canterbury death or burial entry.^[17]
