His birthplace is Illinois in the 1900 census and the 1890 marriage index, but Missouri on a Find a Grave memorial whose contributor cites nothing. That memorial also names his father as Charles Willson Barber (1834-1882), where the marriage index names John Barber; both name his mother as Hannah Cole, and the 1900 census gives his mother’s birthplace as Ohio. The line of his parents is therefore unsettled and no grandparent is entered. Needs independent verification: a death certificate or an obituary for William M. Barber, who died in 1948, would show his parents and birthplace.[5]
