The tree has placed him as a son of George A. Ellinwood and Josephine D. Morrill, because the 1900 and 1910 censuses list him in their household as a son of the head. Other records contradict that. Three records give his birth as 29 January 1898, before that marriage on 24 December 1898: the Social Security Death Index, a Veterans Administration index entry and a Find a Grave memorial. The Maine marriage record of 6 April 1920 names the groom’s parents as George A Ellinwood and Helen M Isham, in two index entries, one from each side of the family; the memorial names his mother as Helen Maud Isham Ellinwood; and Helen M Ellinwood died at Gray on 8 February 1898, ten days after his birth. The census entries say only that he was a son of the head of household, and the 1900 census lists Josephine as married for one year. The weight of the evidence is that he was the son of Helen Maud Isham, not of Josephine; his placement beside Josephine remains in the tree until his link to the family of George A. Ellinwood and Helen can be made. His identity is distinguished from that of his father, George A. Ellinwood (b. 1871, a physician at Gray, d. 3 April 1930), by his birth in 1898 and his death on 14 August 1970 at Portland, shown in the Maine Death Index at age 72.
