His birth is recorded as 18 August 1871 at Thorndike in an index of the town birth register, which names his parents as Ralph and Harriett M. Ellenwood. A Find a Grave memorial and its index give 17 August 1871; the 1900 census (born April 1872, the date the tree held until now) and the 1930 census (aged 58) give 1872 from stated ages. The register entry, nearest to the event, is entered; the others are derived from ages or from a memorial that cites nothing. He practised as a physician at Gray, where he died on 3 April 1930 according to the American Medical Association deceased physician file, and was buried in Gray Village Cemetery. Needs independent verification: the register entry itself, which has not been seen.[9]

The 1880 census lists Josephine, aged 3, in the Gray household of Marsh C. and Anna F. Morrill, with her relationship to the head given as “Other” rather than daughter. Her birth year of about 1877 is worked out from the age of 3. Needs independent verification: a record that names Mark C. Morrell and Anna as her parents.[18]

Josephine D. Morrill of Gray married George A. Ellinwood on 24 December 1898; the marriage index names her father only as Morrill. She is identified with Josephine, the daughter of Mark C. Morrell and Anna, by circumstance: she is the only Josephine of about the right age found in Gray in 1880, and her 1900 and 1910 census entries give her father as born in Maine and her mother as born in Canada (English) and in England, which agrees with her mother’s own 1900 entry. The index of the Gray Village Cemetery memorial gives her birth date as 26 January 1877, while the 1900 census gives January 1878. Needs independent verification: her 1949 obituary or a probate record for Mark C. Morrell naming a daughter Josephine.[19]
