Her birthplace is reported differently in four census entries. The 1880 census, in the Gray household of Marsh C. Morrill, gives Anna F. as born in Maine. The 1900 census, in the household of Mark C. Morrell, gives her as born in England. The 1900 and 1910 census entries for her daughter Josephine D. Ellinwood, enumerated in a separate household, give Josephine’s mother as born in Canada (English) in 1900 and in England in 1910. Maine is the earlier entry from the same household that later reported England; the two entries from the daughter’s household are independent of it and both place Anna’s birth outside the United States, so England is adopted, with Canada kept as a possibility. The place of birth is unrecorded beyond the country. Needs independent verification: the 1909 Gray death record for Anna F. Morrell, or her marriage record, naming her birthplace.[9]
An online memorial gives her birth as 7 August 1837 at Halifax, Nova Scotia, but states that the birth date was worked out from her age at death, taken from the Town of Gray death record, and it cites no record for Halifax; it also names her mother as Isabelle Dustin and lists children who died young that are not in the tree. These are contributor statements and are kept as leads, not adopted: the tree’s birth year of 1837 stands, and the memorial does not change her recorded birthplace. Her death date of 8 April 1909 is the memorial’s statement from that death record. Needs independent verification: the 1909 Gray death record itself, which would settle her birthplace, her parents, and the death date.[11]

The Massachusetts death entry for a married woman indexed only by the surname Morrell gives her age as 41, her birth as 4 March 1873 at Gray, Maine, her parents as Mark Morrell and Anna F. Webster, and her husband as Herman N. Knox. The entry does not give her given name. Needs independent verification: a marriage record or Massachusetts death certificate naming her as Lizzie and giving details on Herman N. Knox.[16]
