NOTE: William Cyrus Morrill’s birthplace rests on two FamilySearch index entries of one 1917-1918 draft registration card, which are not independent records of two registrations: one gives Rutland, Bibb, Georgia and the other Rutland, Georgia, and the card image, opened at thumbnail size, was legible only as the date and the words Rutland Ga. The first entry places Rutland in Bibb County, and both entries give the birth date 29 September 1892.
NOTE: Needs independent verification: the birth and residence of William Cyrus Morrill rest on United States, World War I Draft Registration Cards, 1917-1918 (secondary information) alone and have not yet been confirmed by a second source.
Two further marriages are placed with William Cyrus Morrill on index and licence evidence. A Fulton County, Georgia, marriage index entry of 16 February 1915 names William C Merrill and Lelie L Caldwell; it gives no age or parents, and is placed with him and Lelia Lula Caldwell by the names, the county, and his residence at Atlanta in 1917 and 1918. A Crittenden County, Arkansas, marriage licence and certificate of 18 April 1937 names Mr. William C. Morrill of Memphis, aged 38, and Miss Jessie V. Poland of Memphis, aged 26. His Evening Star obituary of 19 April 1938, already cited in the tree, names his wife as Mrs Virginia Poland Morrill, and the 1930 census lists Virginia J Poland, aged 19, in a Memphis household, so the 1937 bride is taken to be Virginia Jessie Poland. The licence gives the groom as 38, about 1898, against his birth on 29 September 1892, which would make him 44 in April 1937; the six years are unexplained, and the licence names no parents or birthplace, so the placement of the groom with him rests on the bride’s surname in his obituary. Needs independent verification: a record of the 1937 marriage naming his parents, or his residence at Memphis in 1937.[9]
